Research Associate and Head of Policy
Michelle is a Research Associate at ILINA, where she pursues two strands of work: the governance of AI in Global South countries, and the governance of AI agents in general. She also serves as Head of Policy, leading efforts to integrate AI safety considerations into African governments' AI decision-making. Her research includes work on the role of Global South countries in safe AI development and an analysis of the risks of automation-first AI adoption in these regions. Previously, Michelle was an AI Futures Fellow and Visiting Researcher at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER). She holds an undergraduate law degree from Strathmore University and a Master of Laws degree from Columbia Law School.
